Steam to end support for Win7/8/8.1 systems in 2024

With Microsoft's official announcement that they will no longer support Win7/8/8.1 systems, more and more software is announcing that they will be dropping support for older systems.

Today, Steam officially announced that it will stop supporting Win7/8/8.1 systems on 1 January 2024.

After this date, the Steam client will no longer be able to run on these versions of Windows. Users still running these systems will need to upgrade to Win10 or higher in order to use Steam properly.

Steam says that this decision is due to the fact that the latest features of Steam require an embedded version of Chrome, but since Chrome is no longer available for older versions of systems.

Therefore, the new features can only be successfully and safely updated on Win10 or higher versions of Windows.

It is worth noting that, according to Steam's current statistics, users running Win8.1 and below make up only about 5.37% of all Windows users, which may be one of the reasons why Steam has decided to end support for older systems.
