Major Wi-Fi upgrade for iPhone 15 Series: Wi-Fi 6E support
In today's news, Ming-Chi Kuo has revealed that the iPhone 15 series will support Wi-Fi 6E, making it Apple's first Wi-Fi 6E-enabled 5G phone.
The current 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro and Mac mini, Apple's latest releases, as well as the 11-inch and 12.9-inch iPad Pro launched last year already support Wi-Fi 6E, and this time Apple is bringing Wi-Fi 6E to iPhone devices.
Compared to Wi-Fi 6, Wi-Fi 6E is a major upgrade. It uses the new 6GHz band with up to seven additional 160MHz channels. While Wi-Fi 6 devices use the same congested spectrum as other legacy Wi-Fi 4 and 5 devices and only have two 160MHz channels, this gives Wi-Fi 6E devices the advantage and ability to achieve Gigabit speeds more easily.
In addition, Wi-Fi 6E devices are backwards compatible with legacy wireless technologies such as Wi-Fi 6 and Wireless-AC, and can also connect to legacy Wi-Fi 4 and 5 networks in the legacy 2.4/5GHz bands if required. With Wi-Fi 6E, the iPhone 15 Series gets more bandwidth, lower latency and faster speeds.
It is worth noting that it is not yet known whether Wi-Fi 6E will be standard across the iPhone 15 Series or limited to the Pro and Ultra versions.
