Apple releases second-generation HomePod: priced at $299

Apple isn't done releasing new devices, following the release of the new MacBook Pro and Mac mini, the company showed off the new full-size HomePod, the successor to the original and high-priced smart speaker that Apple discontinued in March 2021.

Apple said the second-generation HomePod is "packed with Apple innovation and Siri intelligence," advanced high-quality audio, and a "breakthrough listening experience" that supports spatial audio. Visually, it looks almost identical to the original model, with a backlit touch surface and two color options (white and midnight) made of 100 percent recycled mesh.

HomePod delivers incredible audio quality with rich, deep bass and stunning high frequencies. A custom high amplitude woofer, a powerful motor driving the cone to an extraordinary 20mm, a built-in bass EQ microphone, and a beamforming array of five tweeters around the base all work together to achieve a powerful acoustic experience. the S7 chip is combined with software and system sensing technology to deliver more advanced computational audio, maximizing the potential of its acoustic system for a breakthrough auditory experience.

With room-sensing technology, HomePod identifies sound reflections from nearby surfaces to determine whether it is against a wall or freestanding, and then adjusts the sound in real time. Precise directional control of its beamforming array of five tweeters separates direct audio from ambient audio, immersing listeners in crystal-clear vocals and rich instrumental sounds.

As with the original HomePod and HomePod mini, users can pair two HomePod 2s to separate the left and right channels, creating a wider, more immersive soundstage. another new feature of the HomePod mini is ultra-wide band technology, which allows you to give what's playing directly to the HomePod.

The new HomePod also supports safety recognition, allowing you to listen for smoke and carbon monoxide alerts. Once detected, HomePods will send a notification to your iPhone. There are also built-in temperature and humidity sensors for measuring indoor environments and creating home automation.

The second-generation HomePod can be ordered now for $299, just $50 cheaper than the original version. Apple plans to ship the device on February 3, 2023.
