A sneak preview of the iOS 17 upgrade: all iOS 16 phones can be upgraded, including the iPhone X/8
On 6 April, MacRumors reported that it had previously been claimed that Apple iOS 17 would drop support for the iPhone X, iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus models.
This has been denied by a tipster. He said that all models that support iOS 16 will support iOS 17, including the iPhone X, iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus with the A11 chip.
It's worth noting that the tipster has previously accurately revealed the iPhone 14 Pro and 14 Pro Max Lingering Island designs, so his list of iOS 17 upgrades is more credible this time around.
Apple previously adapted iOS 15 to all iPhones running iOS 14, although not all of the new features in iOS 15 were delegated to older models. But with iOS 16, the iPhone SE, iPhone 6s, iPhone 6s Plus, iPod touch, iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus were left out of the new iOS version.
As it stands, even if Apple adapts support for iOS 17 to the hardware-limited iPhone X and iPhone 8 series, the new features of iOS 17 will most likely not all be delegated to these older models.
It is reported that Apple will hold WWDC on 5 June, when the official upgrade list for the iOS 17 series will be announced.
