iOS 16 introduces new features and enhancements at a glance
iPhone 8 or later and second- and third-generation iPhone SE owners can now download the new version of iOS, iOS 16, for free.
The latest version of iOS offers a host of new features and improvements that will allow users to further personalize what they see on screen. For example, users can now change the color and font of the clock and work with widgets for more information, such as calendar events, weather, and other time zones.
Another highlight of the update is the lock screen, which offers new and different options to customize the phone's display. It has a wallpaper generator and you can also use wallpapers that show dynamic weather and astronomical details. There's also an option to use your picture and apply a depth effect to help you better use your favorite photo as the subject. Speaking of photos, it should now be easier for you to share them with family and others via the Shared library. This will allow everyone with access to the library to access the photos without having to manually share them.
This update also introduces many other features to the lock screen, including smart suggestions for lock screen photos, automatic lock screen photo shuffle, live stream events, improved notification and now playing design, notification animations, and more.
Personalization isn't the only bright spot in iOS 16. A lot of improvements have also been injected into Focus, such as setting up notification mute lists, scheduling, Focus filters, and more.
As expected, the ability to edit messages will be available in this update, so you can now edit texts up to 15 minutes after sending them, while unsending can only be done within two minutes. Additional features include marking messages as unread, restoring recently deleted messages, sharing synced events, sending invitations to collaborate on projects in Messages, audio message playback, and more.
iOS Home has also been improved, such as its new design. Other things to check out and try are the whole house view, new camera view, redesigned accessories tile, and new widgets on the iPhone lock screen.
Apple leverages many other parts of the system, so you can also expect enhancements and new keys for Mail, Safari, Passwords, Live Text, Siri, Dictation, Maps, Apple Pay and Wallet, Health, Fitness, Family Sharing, Privacy, and more Functionality, Security and Accessibility. Expect other improvements in the future, such as iCloud Shared Photo Library and Freeform later this year, and CarPlay scheduled for late 2023. There are other small improvements, such as the camera, app Clips, FaceTime, and more.
Users can now start downloading the latest iOS via the Settings app or via a computer wired update. Needless to say, backing up your files is the first rule to follow before doing it.
