iPhone 14 could be priced lower than iPhone 13
The launch of the iPhone 14 series is now just a week away, and we're likely to witness the release of at least three models, but there is speculation that there will be a fourth. Rumors and reports suggest that there will be some notable upgrades this year, mostly the design of the Pro version, as well as some small but critical upgrades to the standard iPhone 14. This in turn automatically leads to the belief that prices will be higher than before, with the previous-generation iPhone 13 starting at $799 given the increased cost of components. However, a new report suggests otherwise.
Earlier Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo said the average selling price will rise by 15% this year. The standard iPhone 14 is said to remain at $799, the rumored iPhone 14 Max is said to cost $899, and both Pro models are expected to rise by $100. That means the standard Pro version will cost $1,099, while the Pro Max will cost $1,199. But a report suggests otherwise.
Market intelligence firm TrendForce said it expects Apple to maintain sales through smaller increases given the sluggish economy and the smartphone market decline. Upgrades such as increasing the starting memory capacity to LPDDR5 6GB and 256GB, the main camera up to 48MP, and the Face ID design are expected to boost the starting price.
However, with global inflation and rising exchange rates, Apple is expected to adopt a safer pricing strategy, so this will not be a factor in sales performance. For this reason, the company predicts a smaller price increase for the iPhone 14, starting at:
- iPhone 14: $749
- iPhone 14 Max: $849
- iPhone 14 Pro: $1,049
- iPhone 14 Pro Max: $1,149
That pricing looks fair considering the small upgrade over the non-Pro version and some notable improvements over the high-end version. Apple will debut a model, the iPhone 14 Max, for those who want a large 6.7-inch display but don't want to spend a fortune on the Pro Max model. While that's good news, larger displays will cost more.
In addition, the Pro model's main camera sensor will be bumped from 12MP to 48MP. There are also rumors that Apple may add 8K video recording for the first time. There are rumors that the standard version may start from 256GB to 128GB to reduce the price. The Pro version may also gain satellite communications capabilities.
