“iPhone 14 Plus” is rumored to be the actual name of the 6.7-inch low-end model
Apple is expected to announce four new iPhone 14 models at its Sept. 7 event, including a standard 6.7-inch model widely known in rumors as the "iPhone 14 Max." However, the device may actually end up with a different name.
The new 6.7-inch model may actually be named "iPhone 14 Plus," according to a photo purportedly from Apple's iPhone case shared by Twitter user "Tommy Boi." If the news is true, the 2022 iPhone lineup includes the 6.1-inch iPhone 14, the 6.7-inch iPhone 14 Plus, the 6.1-inch iPhone 14 Pro, and the 6.7-inch iPhone 14 Pro Max.
Of course, such a photo could easily be doctored, but even if the leak was fake, the "iPhone 14 Plus" name would make sense, as the "iPhone 14 Plus" name might help differentiate the device from the iPhone 14 Pro Max open up and show that the device, despite its large 6.7-inch screen, is not the highest-end model in terms of specs.
Apple last used the "Plus" branding for the iPhone 8 Plus in 2017. Since then, Apple has used the "Max" branding for its largest iPhone sizes, including the iPhone XS Max, iPhone 11 Pro Max, iPhone 12 Pro Max and iPhone 13 Pro Max.
Of course we can still make an argument for the "iPhone 14 Max" name, as Apple's selling the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Max alongside the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max will certainly provide some consistency. We'll have to wait and see what names Apple will announce at its event seven days from now.
As for the source, Tommy Boi accurately leaked some of Apple's new iPhone case colors last year, but it's unclear if the cases are genuine or knockoffs.
