Fits larger rear camera module iPhone 14 Pro will have rounder corners

Ian Zelbo, an Apple-focused designer, says the iPhone 14 Pro will have curved corners that are larger to match the larger rear camera array. zelbo is known in the industry for making Apple HD renders based on leaked information, having previously worked on Mac Studio, Studio Display and the rumored Hybrid reality headset, and more. He thinks the iPhone 14 Pro will have a greater curvature at the corners.

Based on CAD renders, dimensions, schematics, images of the accessory production tooling and other information, he brings a visual comparison of the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro. On the other hand, the radius of the iPhone 14 Pro Max appears to be almost identical to that of the iPhone 13 Pro Max.

Apple may have been forced to change the corner radius of the iPhone 14 Pro due to changes in the rear camera array. The iPhone 14 Pro models are expected to feature a larger rear camera array to allow for a new 48MP camera system with a 57% increase in sensor size.

The rear camera array on the iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max roughly matches the corner radius of each device's bezel, but when Apple increased the size of the camera array with the iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max, the corners of both devices did not match. While the differences between the camera arrays of the iPhone 12 Pro Max and iPhone 13 Pro Max are small, the differences between the iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro are significant.

With the increase in size again this year, the incongruity between the curves of the camera platform, the lens and the corners of the stainless steel frame itself became too much on the iPhone 14 Pro, leading Apple to revise the design. Zelbo said the new, larger corner radius still doesn't exactly match the rounded corners of the rear camera array platform, but it's significantly closer.
