1.7x faster than NVIDIA A100! Google says TPUv4 is better for AI
Recently, Google researchers published a paper showing that a supercomputer built with TPUv4 is more powerful than one built with NVIDIA A100.
According to the paper, TPUv4 builds are theoretically 1.2 to 1.7 times faster and consume 1.3 to 1.9 times less power than supercomputers built with the NVIDIA A100.
TPU, known as Tensor Processing Units, is said to be a chip developed by Google to rival NVIDIA in the field of artificial intelligence development and computing.
The latest in the series, the TPUv4 offers 2.1 times the performance of the TPUv3 and 2.7 times the performance and power consumption.
This gives TPUv4-based supercomputers 4096 chips and an overall speed increase of up to 10 times.
According to the data presented in the paper, a supercomputer built with TPUv4 would be more suitable for AI-related data operations than one built with NVIDIA A100.
