How to open taskbar-fixed applications using the keyboard and shortcuts
At the bottom of your screen is a taskbar (not necessarily at the bottom, of course, as you can move it around). The taskbar shows the applications you have open and the applications you have pinned to it.
To pin an application to the taskbar, do the following:
- Right click on the application
- Left-click on "Pin to Taskbar
But did you know that you can launch the applications that are locked to the taskbar without touching the mouse?
These icons on the taskbar are numbered. On the right of the Start menu, it's 1 all the way down to 10 (0).
This means that in addition to the Start button, there are 10 applications that can be opened with a shortcut key.
To launch the application to the right of the Start button, hold down the Windows key and press the number 1 once (WIN + 1). If you want to start the next application, you can press WIN + 2, and so on.
How's that for convenience? Go ahead and try it out!
