PS5 VRR variable refresh rate has been exposed to serious picture problems
VRR variable refresh rate was one of the technologies SONY touted when it launched the PS5. SONY said it could dynamically adjust the refresh rate of the display to always match the frame rate of the GPU output, reducing problems such as screen tearing and image repetition.
However, according to player feedback, the screen often flickered or stuck after VRR was turned on, even with SONY's new high-end esports display, the INZONE M9.
In addition, some players said that after the VRR function is enabled and the above problems occur, even if the user ends the game, restarts the monitor, or even formats the OSD of the monitor, they cannot solve the problem of screen tearing and adhesion. Only after the VRR is closed for a period of time, the monitor can be restored to normal.
So far, no user's display has been irreversibly affected by VRR, but to be on the safe side, it's best not to enable this feature until SONY fixes the problem.
